Your new learning journey starts here.

Prepare and support parents to grow as individuals, grow closer as partners, and thrive as a new family.

How would it feel if you could prepare expectant mothers, fathers or parents for the rapid life changes, unexpected stresses and steep learning curves of the postnatal period?

What difference would it make to you and your clients if you knew how to provide support for the overwhelming transitions and intense mental, emotional and relational growth of becoming a new family?

Do you want simple but powerful interventions, frameworks and skills to support the whole family, even if you solely work with mothers and only have a minute to spare?

Relationship preparation and support are crucial components of perinatal care and you don't need to be a relationship therapist to do this work. Discover how even small relationship-based interventions can make a big difference for the parents and families in your care.

Becoming Us is designed for:

  • Antenatal and birth professionals: childbirth educator, midwife, OB/GYN or doula.

  • Postnatal/Postpartum and infant care professionals: pediatrician, child and family health nurse, health visitor, postpartum doula, lactation consultant, sleep consultant.

  • Perinatal mental health or therapy professionals: perinatal psychiatrist, psychologist, psychotherapist, LMFT, social worker or counsellor.

  • Perinatal health or natural therapies professionals: physiotherapist, prenatal yoga teacher or pregnancy massage therapist.

  • Educational professionals: early childhood teacher, parenting, relationship or life coach.

  • Community leaders: manager with an employer of choice, service organisation or spiritual leader.

Can you say that a training is beautiful? Because this training is beautiful!

Dr Diane Speier, Birth Professional and Psychotherapist, Cheshire, UK

Through this unique training, you'll discover:

You'll be able to organise this stressful, overwhelming and chaotic time down into 12 different transtions that mothers, fathers, parents and partners need to navigate.

  • The Personal Stages of "Becoming Me"

Parents go (and grow) through 8 stages as they become adults. Find out how each stage plays out through parenthood and why it's more challenging for some parents.

  • The Science of Learning

You'll learn two major discoveries about the perinatal brain that can make all the difference for how you work with parents - AND all the difference for families going forward.

  • A Simple Relationship Model

Have a simple but powerful model that describes perinatal relationship changes and an insightful and practical handout to use with clients. This is one of our most popular resources.

  • A Single, Big, Life Lesson

Knowing how emotions work can make all the difference for how you work with clients. You'll have a relationship changing exercise and a handout for this too.

  • Intersections with Mental Health

Learn the many intersections between relationship satisfaction and perinatal mental health. Be empowered to support parents with this targeted information.

  • Intimate Communication Guidelines

Knowing how to approach differences can help parents to find middle ground, bring couples closer, and lay family foundations. You'll have handouts for this too.

  • The Art of Seed Planting

Combine your new learning with your unique knowledge of your clients to plant simple but powerful seeds which support coping, growing and thriving for the whole family.

This is a gigantic missing piece of the big picture. This knowledge really adds depth and a new dimension, opening up all kinds of possibilities for educating and supporting parents so they get the best possible start.

The Becoming Us Story

As a relationship counsellor and a new mother at the same time, Elly Taylor was shocked to discover it was nobody's actual role to prepare parents for the (normal) life changes and unexpected challenges that come with new parenthood, leaving mothers, fathers and parents more at risk for perinatal mental health conditions and relationship problems.

Working intimately with parents and partners over two decades, Elly created Becoming Us, a ground-breaking relational approach to pregnancy and early parenthood that supports the mental and emotional wellbeing of the whole family.

Elly's passion is equipping perinatal professionals with strategies, skills and guidelines to do this powerful and meaningful work. We hope you'll join us for our next  "immersion" training to see for yourself the difference it can make for you and the families you care for!

An Amazing Experience!

Kathy Kerr, Florida

I recently had a couple in difficult circumstances and I thought I was in over my head. But after this training, I felt comfortable and the husband actually continued longer with me because he really wanted to support his wife. It ended up being a highlight of my time in private practice. Thank you Elly!

A New Superpower!

Judy Massey, Sydney

After this training, I changed a few slides in my childbirth class to include the father/partner. I also asked them more direct questions and the answers were delivered with great enthusiasm! Afterwards, all the dads thanked me for the information and how important it was to them. It was awesome!

Inspiring!

Barb Suarez, Portland

I think Aussies lead the way in birth, so I found this course really rich. It fits so well with what I think and reinforces so many ways that birth workers can help couples before they become parents. I loved the ideas and new twists and the statistics stunned me. I was even inspired to write about something for my blog in the middle of the night!

Facing the Unknown

Sally Placksin, New York

This new knowledge is a golden gateway for me. One thing most moms want me to address with them and their partners is how they can best work as a team after baby arrives. I can be more responsive to this now. They also express anxiety about facing the unknown, including how their relationship will change. I can't think of a more positive message to give them than what I've just learned.

Totally Ground-Breaking

Trish Everett, New South Wales

As a wellness coach, I love helping parents find the places in their lives where they feel like an ugly duckling and support them on their journey to fully swan. There are three really big places I find this is needed by new mothers; in their relationships, their bodies and their parenting. I am so excited to be part of this training as this work is totally ground-breaking and needed. I can clearly see how this work can help my clients.
